SREE SITAR AMA TEMPLE Mayabunder

The Sree Sita Rama Temple in Mayabunder, North & Middle Andaman District, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, boasts stunning architecture, featuring intricate carvings and beautiful wall paintings known as Patta Chitra. The temple is a two-story structure. The ground floor consists of a spacious mandapam (open hall), which serves as a gathering space, while the first floor is dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita in the main Aalaya, along with Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna in the Uppa Aalaya.

In front of the sanctum sanctorum on the ground floor is a large hall, which adds to the temple’s grandeur and becomes a hub of activity during the Kalyana Mahotsavam and other cultural events throughout the year. The first-floor sanctum houses the idols of Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sita, with a staircase leading up that offers devotees a panoramic view, similar to that of the Sree Sita Rama Temple in Bhadrachalam.

The temple grounds also include a beautiful flower garden dedicated to Sree Sita Rama and a Paak Shaala (kitchen). Entirely crafted from white marble, the temple exudes a sense of tranquility and inner peace. At its pinnacle, the Neela Chakra majestically crowns the temple, symbolizing its spiritual significance and connecting deeply with devotees. As the sun rises each day, the temple shines with golden rays, glorifying it as a divine abode.

According to historical records, the Sree Sita Rama Temple in Mayabunder is the oldest of its kind in the region, built in 1964. The temple is managed by the Sree Sita Rama Temple Committee, established in the same year. The management organizes the Sree Sita Rama Kalyanam and distributes Mahaprasad to devotees annually, following the traditional rituals of the temple.

For the Pravasi Telugu community residing in Mayabunder, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the temple serves as the main hub for cultural expression and the celebration of various festivals. It remains a beloved center of spirituality, art, and culture for devotees.
